Looking Forward, Looking Black

Celebrating Black History Month - Feb. 2004

Many believe art should move beyond the use of denigrating stereotypical imagery while others maintain that, because of the sensitivity of the subject matter, the dialogue must continue. LOOKING FORWARD, LOOKING BLACK – a month long festival in celebration of Black History Month (February 2004), brought together a panel symposium of artists participating in the festival, along with individuals from the local community to talk about these issues and celebrate life as a human being and artist. Performances included Masabo (above) and visual artists included Cigana (below). Terry Costa, Festival Director.
