Submit a proposal to participate in the Azores Fringe Festival!

2450+ artists, from 64 countries, participated in the past editions of the Azores Fringe, the international arts festival in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Headquartered in the village of Madalena, Pico island, the highest mountain in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge North and of Portugal, local artists from all 9 islands are joined by international artists to showcase and exhibit their works, develop and create synergies while enjoying life in paradise - where all seasons weather can happen in one day. From book launches, lectures on artistic culture, exhibitions of various art forms to window dressings, mural paintings on the street, workshops and performances, dance, theatre, music, films, DJs, events for children and families and even an open stage where the audience becomes the performer and does what it wants for up to 5 minutes; a theatrical fashion-show in the square, presentations in the world heritage landscape of the vineyards, animated tour of the whaling village, photographic expedition to the center of the island and performances in caves, yates and volcano craters, have been just some of the hot spots of the presentations.
Artists submit proposals of what they wish to accomplish during the festival (one hour, one day, one weekend, one week, all month, it´s up to you and your budget). MiratecArts organization creates the program of events depending on the proposals and annual budget.

We strongly encourage artists that are travelling or wish to vacation in Azores, to stop by during the month of June to participate in the festival. The festival does not support international travel costs but adds your work to the professionally designed program and helps with materials, venues, and more. Fringe significa em português "franja" ou "margem". Os conceitos dos festivais Fringe no mundo são inspirados no Festival Internacional de Edimburgo, uma mostra escocesa que surgiu em 1947. Hoje há cerca de 300 festivais mundiais, uma rede com plataformas gigantescas de apoios a arte e artistas. Com raízes em performance e arte visual, artistas apresentam espectáculos e exposições, workshops/oficinas e outras ações que vão de salas à rua. Fringe é uma mostra de cor e emoção artística para dar a conhecer talentos a novas audiências. O Festival cria oportunidades para artistas investirem no desenvolvimento da sua arte, e para audiências aventurarem em novos territórios.

AZORES FRINGE FESTIVAL é o primeiro festival deste género em Portugal. Realizado pela associação miratecarts, com sede na ilha do Pico. O Azores Fringe abre portas para artistas e grupos culturais da ilha, assim como da região e todo o território português, para fazerem algo um pouco diferente. Também acolhemos artistas do estrangeiro que estão disponíveis a investir a chegar até nós. O Azores Fringe tem o epicentro sediado na vila da Madalena, mas com eventos satélite em outras localidades e ilhas em parceria com várias entidades. O Azores Fringe dá uma alegria e visibilidade ao Concelho, à ilha e aos Açores, que assim se juntam a esta rede internacional, o World Fringe, para apresentar uma explosão artística.

Propostas de participação são aceites até Janeiro para o festival que se realiza em Junho. Artistas e eventos são aceites até o programa estar completo. O festival faz tudo o possível para apoiar os artistas interessados em participarem, logo que estes estejam dispostos em investir para se apresentarem no epicentro ou mesmo realizar eventos em algumas das ilhas dos Açores.

Shorts@Fringe é uma mostra de curtas-metragens no Azores Fringe Festival. Programação vai acontecer em várias ilhas em espaços ao ar livre assim como também em locais mais tradicionais. Esta é uma oportunidade para artistas mostrarem seus trabalhos nos Açores e também para o público que de outra forma não teriam a chance de ver este tipo de trabalhos. Mandando filme, o artista está a dar os direitos para que o filme faça parte da mostra e fique qualificado para o Prémio Audiência. Para se inscrever mande: Título, Nome Realizador, Minutos (maximo 15), País e ano de produção; uma frase promocional assim como imagem e ainda uma foto do realizador se for possivel; e o mais importante, o link para visionamento e download do filme. azoresfringe@gmail.com

Shorts@Fringe is a showcase of short films at the Azores Fringe Festival, an international arts festival in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Program will happen in various islands from indoor to outdoor venues giving the opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work in the Azores and also for audiences that otherwise would not have a chance to see this type of work. All type of shorts are welcome up to 15min long with English or Portuguese subtitles.

Fringe is open to all. Rules are simple. You submit, you have a chance to be showcased at the Fringe with listings on the web and the printed program of the festival. 

Films arrive at the Fringe without cost to the festival via email link to vimeo, youtube, or any other downloadable platform, with your film and contact details: Title, Director, Length (max 15 minutes), Country and Year of production, as well as Synopsis and link to the film on a downloadable platform. By submitting, the artist/filmmaker/producer is giving rights to the Festival to present the film at the Fringe.

Fringe festivals come in all shapes and sizes, most are open access, which means anyone can be involved, but they also have events that are invited, a lottery, part programmed and a mix of them all. They are born from passion and hard work, a passion for development, for creating a platform and for seeing and realizing new ideas and initiatives. Fringes are where exciting sparks and stars are made. They are the 'excellence' of the future.
The Azores Fringe Festival happening in the month of June is an open access event where anyone can make a proposal, if they are willing to invest in joining us in the arquipélago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Best suited performances for our audiences are in portuguese, english or non-spoken language; other languages may be difficult to garner our audiences.
Other interesting facts about the Azores islands is that there is a huge connection to Canada and USA due to emigration, therefore thousands of people living in North America visit the islands year-round. European visitors are led by Germans and Dutch.
Proposals of participation in the Festival will be accepted until January 1st, but artists and events are accepted until the program is full or complete. Artistas podem fazer parte da expo mandando seus trabalhos para o Fringe via barco, avião, entregar em pessoa, ou via da Net (o festival imprime).
Todas as áreas artísticas são bem vindas.
