Delegates & the Competition
The Mr. Gay Canada Competition is a 3-day, indoor/outdoor series of events to help our judges identify an authentic leader that will be a strong spokesman or Ambassador to share with the world our values and mission. The Competition includes physical tests and interviews with a panel of judges. 85% of our grading system is targeted towards testing the leadership qualities in the delegate. These include communication, charisma, intelligence, experience, leadership and the ability to inspire. The remaining 15% of the judging points are assigned to appearance and how well the delegate is to market as the face of Mr. Gay Canada.
Mr Gay Canada delegates choose their own clothing for public presentations and do not have to pay fees to enter this competition. If you are interested in being a part of the experience, please send the completed application (below) with your CV/resume and photo to info[at]mrgaycanada[dot]com All we need are the answers to the questions - make it easy and write an email!

...and more...

MGC Competition is a vehicle in which we are able to help groom authentic individuals with the desire to give back to his community and inspire those around. Through a series of public events and interacting with the community both queer and mainstream it is the intent of MGC to provide positive role models that embodies it is okay to be gay. It is okay to be your authentic self and embrace diversity.
MGC has passion, drive, determination and most importantly initiative to be OUT in his community and inspiring those around him. MGC has fun, is respectful, and embraces diversity. MGC is not afraid to try something new and move outside his comfort zone.
The Unknown: The unknown is all that “goop” of insecurity, lack of information, education, and understanding. It is also the lack of authenticity, fear and communication.
By having visual leaders in the community at large (both mainstream and queer) helps to breakdown misunderstandings of the unknown. Visual leaders such as Ellen DeGeneres and Mark Tewsbury as out and openly gay leaders helps to take the “unknown” and show that they are regular human beings that happen to be gay as well. They are in essences no different than the guy next door, and therefore should not be treated with any less respect or dignity. MGC maybe an engineer or police officer and just because he is gay does not mean he performs his duties any less than his heterosexual counterparts and should have less respect. By having more people feeling comfortable that they can be their authentic selves only continues to strengthen the community fabric.
Fighting for equality and the right to be our authentic selves will contribute to better self esteem and some mental illness can actually be reduced by stopping the vicious cycle of self hate because one does not fit into society’s “norm”. It is okay to be gay.
